A formal Business Improvement District was successfully voted on in February 2020 and the Aldgate Connect BID went live on 1 April 2020. The BID creates a strong business voice to lobbying on behalf of businesses, enhancing the physical environment, creating a safer, stronger and more appealing destination.
Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) play an increasingly important role in the functioning and sustainability of London. These public-private partnerships have become a respected tool and facilitator within communities to carry out additional services to the local council and other vital public services. BIDs have also become champions for retention of business rates within central London, collaboration in tackling the issue of air pollution and better integration of public and private spaces.
In light of Covid – 19, the recovery of our neighbourhoods are going to be of upmost importance and that it why we aligning with recovery planning that is flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of our businesses.
Able to raise funds through a levy paid by local businesses, the BID will also be able to leverage additional investment to deliver tangible improvements.
By working in partnership with City of London, Tower Hamlets , the GLA, TfL, and both the City of London Police and the Metropolitan Police we can begin to upgrade daily operations and influence longer-term strategy, we have already taken great strides towards creating a brighter and more sustainable future for the Aldgate area.
