Aldgate Community Float

We are delighted to be back in this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday 12th November, with another creative community float in the parade!

The inspiration for our float this year is the mathematics of arts & crafts. Looking back at the history of the Spitalfields Mathematical Society in 1717 and their links to local weavers, we wanted to celebrate the area’s rich connection with weaving and mathematics in the form of String Art.

The community will be heavily involved in the design and build of the Aldgate Float. School Children form 3 Aldgate based schools: The Aldgate School, English Martyrs and Canon Barnett, who will work in groups making colourful circular pieces exploring mathematics through hands on creative learning. The children will look at geometric patterns and create giant string woven circular designs which will decorate the float. The float will also feature a silhouette of Aldgate’s iconic skyline buildings.

Sustainability has been an important consideration when designing the float, with the trailer being towed by an eco-vehicle and recycled materials being used where possible, including using string and fabric waste to create the designs. The creations for the float will also be reused for the Aldgate in Winter Festival.

Keep an eye out for our colourful community float on Saturday 12th November 2021 in the Lord Mayor’s Show, come see us in person or view the show live streamed on the BBC!

This float is kindly supported by 4C Group and Canopy London City.

City of London BID’s Float

City of London BIDs Float for the Lord Mayor's Show 2022

We will also feature in the City BIDs float which is included in the procession this year in collaboration with the other City of London BIDs: Fleet Street Quarter, EC BID and Cheapside Business Alliance. The float is to celebrate our unique partnership with the City and the communities we serve and all the City has to offer. We represent the business sector in the City raising around £9million each year to invest in the Square Mile, making it a better place to live, work and visit.
