Did you know that @aldgate_tap isn't just a fantas Did you know that @aldgate_tap isn't just a fantastic local, but also an architectural icon?

The 'Portsoken Pavilion', designed by Make Architects, was completed in 2018 to provide a community space and improve the connection between the two distinctive listed heritage buildings of St Botolph Without Aldgate church and Sir John Cass’s Foundation Primary School. And it is similar in style to the City Information Centre, a RIBA Award-winning pavilion opposite St Paul's Cathedral.

"The monocoque steel structure touches down at only three points, with sliding glass walls set between them. The pavilion’s asymmetry complements the form of our first pavilion for the City – the information centre at St Paul’s Cathedral – while its Corten cladding panels will oxidise and eventually turn orange and brown, complementing the listed school and church on either side of the square."
– @make_architects

The downstairs of the building repurposed a pedestrian subway to offer further facilities and amenities, alongside regulating temperature.

So, next time you pop in for a pint, take a second to admire the architecture too.

Whether you believe in 'Blue Monday' or not, it's Whether you believe in 'Blue Monday' or not, it's always good to take time to focus on your wellbeing. Here are five things you can do to beat the January blues:

1. Make time to connect with others... Grab your friends or colleagues and put together a team for @lemanstreettavern's weekly Monday quiz.

2. Take a stroll through Aldgate to get the endorphins flowing. Explore the historic alleyways around Artillery Passage, or enjoy the greenery of Aldgate Square and Portsoken Street Garden.

3. Learn something new with a trip to Artizan Street Library. Discover your next pageturner or explore their Maker Space facilities.

4. Nourish your body, because we all know good food means good mood. Build a salad at Kastner and Ovens or enjoy a brothy bowl of noodles at @koiramenbar. Whatever you're craving, we're sure there's a spot for it in Aldgate.

5. Do something you enjoy. Why not pop into @syp_space's Monday Night Jam for live music and good vibes, take a leisurely stroll through @whitechapelgallery's latest exhibition, or test yourself on the @aldgatecitybouldering walls.

How will you be taking time for yourself this week?
