The BID partnered with Providence Row to fund a vital part of their delivery – a Welcome Area and Resource Centre.

Providence Row is a local homeless charity, which has supported rough sleepers and vulnerably housed people in neighbouring boroughs since 1860.

Providence Row’s Welcome Area and Resource Centre has continued to serve the homeless population in East London and the City over the past six months to ensure that people rough sleeping are; welcomed into a safe space, have their most immediate health, hygiene and wellbeing needs met and are supported on a road to recovery away from homelessness.

During September 2021-February 2022, Aldgate Connect have contributed £15,000 to support the operations of Welcome Area and Resource Centre.

During this time, Providence Row report that:

  • they supported a total of 721 people experiencing homelessness, all have passed through the Welcome Area; were greeted by our friendly team, registered for their appointments with specialist support workers and were provided information and guidance.
  • 378 individuals benefited directly from the Resource Centre services, having their most immediate wellbeing, hygiene and health needs met.
  • 727 breakfasts and 1,300 lunches were provided and the washing facilities were accessed on 246 occasions.

Through the BID’s support of Providence Row’s Welcome Area & Resource Centre, they have continued their vital work in supporting the most vulnerable in our community.
