Black History Aldgate Walking Tour

Published:

Celebrate Black History Month with our historical walking tour of Aldgate, uncovering the stories of the Black residents and workers who made East London what it is today.

Date: Wednesday 21st October
Time: 12.30-1.30pm
Meeting point: Petticoat Lane Pocket Park, outside The Columbian Coffee Company

For over 400 years, Aldgate has welcomed refugees and minorities from around the world, whose contributions have shaped the vibrant and diverse community we know today.

This historic walking tour explores Aldgate’s pre-Windrush Black history, taking you back to the beginnings of the African presence in Britain. You’ll meet virtuoso violinists, genre-defining poets, social rights activists, and the diverse working people who kept London running.

This lunchtime tour is a great opportunity to get away from your desk and provides you with a chance to connect with this historic neighbourhood.
