Neighbourhood Update from the London Metropolitan Police for the wards of Whitechapel and Spitalfields & Banglatown

Action on Cannabis Cafe on Court St, E1

Four males arrested in connection with the premises at 5A Court St, E1, for a variety of offences including Concern in the Supply of Cannabis, Possession of Heroin and Money Laundering offences. The police have seized a large quantity of drugs, believed of the street value of approximately £4100k, seized over £5k in cash from a section 18 warrant, two large dogs within the premises, carried out several stop and searches and served a Closure Notice with the view to obtain a full Closure Order on Friday. This venue is believed to be the epicentre of crime and ASB in Whitechapel High Street.

Increase in Pickpocketing 

Following the recent increase in pickpocketing in the ward of Spitalfields & Banglatown, London Met Police have issued crime prevention advice to support the public.

Planned Activity

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) awareness week– scheduled for Tuesday 4th July 2023 between 1-3pm in Whitechapel Market.  The police will be setting up a marked gazebo within the market (as close as possible to station entrance) to engage with Members of Public / visitors / local businesses & residents about any crime and anti-social behaviour concerns in the area – in view of being one of our main ASB hotspot locations.

Additional proposed activities to take place during event:

  • Cycle Marking
  • Handing out Crime prevention leaflets to visitors/ transport users around phone snatch thefts outside Whitechapel Station
