Aldgate locals and visitors came together over the Easter holidays to take part in an area-wide Easter Egg Hunt, the latest event in a series of seasonal celebrations planned for the area.
In partnership with the European Regional Development Fund and Tower Hamlets, Aldgate Connect Business Improvement District has been delivering a range of events and activities to welcome the community back to Middlesex Street, E1, while also celebrating the wide range of cultures and traditions that call Aldgate home. Many of the seasonal plans have the additional aim of raising awareness of climate change.
Over 10 businesses took part in the latest event, which tasked participants with solving a series of clues as they followed a trail through the area. The high street was brought to life as families and local workers took part in the trail, with an estimated 200 people taking part. The fund also assisted in promoting the spring event, with around 50,000 people reached by the local ad campaign.
Other events and activities supported by the ERDF include vibrant winter celebrations in December, which saw a nighttime street market and lantern parade brighten the streets of Aldgate; the enhancement of the outdoor facilities in the Petticoat Lane Dining Quarter and the creation of an urban arbetoreum for the summer.
Aldgate Connect BID Manager, Zoe Barwick said: “It has been wonderful to see people returning to the area in recent months, and the funding we received from ERDF and Tower Hamlets has helped us to give them a warm welcome. As well as bolstering some of the key moments in our events calendar, this funding has also helped towards lasting initiatives in the area, such as our outdoor dining facilities. We look forward to even more community celebrations throughout the rest of the year.”
