Aldgate Connect welcomed The Rt Hon. The Lord Mayor Vincent Thomas Keaveny in the Lord Mayor’s Show last Saturday.

We partnered up with EC Partnership to commission a community float, surrounding the themes of hope and opportunities for the next generations of young workers. The Aldgate and Eastern City float is an homage to young people, reflecting their creativity and independence and showing that the City is a welcoming and inclusive place.

The local community have been heavily involved in the design and build of the float. Local school children from St Paul’s School in Whitechapel created their dream shops inspired by Petticoat Lane, whilst The Aldgate School worked on ‘fruits of aspirations’ showcasing words that the children associate with opportunity.

Sustainability has been an important consideration when designing the float, with the trailer being towed by an eco-vehicle and recycled materials being used where possible; including hand-held flags and logo banners. The artists’ and children’s creations will also be exhibited for all to see as part of the Aldgate in Winter Festival in December.

Thank you to all of the participants, artists and crowds that cheered us on the day! See you next year!
