‘Meet the Makers’ – Maker Esther Maria!

Published:

We are pleased to be a part of the Bunting Collective project and we love showcasing the amazing makers involved! Our next maker is – Esther Maria!

The Bunting Collective is a community project aimed at bringing vibrancy and colour to the Petticoat Lane Market by hanging community made bunting, using the materials and fabrics from the local fabric shops in the market.

The Aldgate Connect BID, City of London Corporation, and the Borough of Tower Hamlets are proud to present a ‘Meet the Maker’ series. The series is showcasing the makers of the bunting, who are all members of the community with a passion and love for the area!

Meet the third maker of this series, Esther Maria!
See what Esther had to say about the project below:

My name is Esther Marie and I am a part of the Lady Lane Market within the Petticoat Lane Market.

I am currently learning how to sew and enjoyed doing embroidery over the lockdown period. I really enjoyed taking part in this project, as it allowed me to develop my sewing skills. I liked improvising with different colours and textures. I particularly loved the African fabrics for the bunting and I liked adding cowrie shells and using fabric paint as well.

It is great to be part of the Bunting Collective project and I am looking forward to seeing all of the amazing creations that have been put together displayed around the area. I think it will add a fabulous array of colour and a feel of the continuing hard work the ladies are putting in, especially in the midst of these very difficult and uncertain times!
