Members of the community came together and fed into the designs of fabric banners, which reflect upon the rich cultural heritage of the area. They shared over two hundred prints, patterns and ideas which were passed onto Textiles students at London Metropolitan University, who were inspired by these in the creation of the banner designs.
Over eighty designs were produced in total. These were whittled down to thirty-two, and over five hundred people from around the area voted on their favourite designs. The sixteen selected designs will be displayed on the banners across Wentworth Street.
The community-designed fabric banners will be installed along the Petticoat Lane Area on the 12th October 2021
In early 2021, community members were invited to share their photos of life around Petticoat Lane. Local artist, Lindsay Moran from Leyden Gallery used these photos to create collages that mark some of the amazing history of Petticoat Lane. The first of these banners will be displayed on Middlesex Street on the sane date, with future on installed soon.
Explore the banners at your leisure from 12th October, and let us know which is your favourite! Or join us at 2:00pm on 13th October on the corner of Wentworth Street and Commercial Street for the community launch.
