As part of this year’s Aldgate in Winter Festival, we’re launching Postcards from Aldgate, a project that seeks to connect the local community through lovingly designed postcards and written messages, distributed to the residents of Aldgate.

How To Take Part

Creative Workshops

Join us in free creative workshops on Friday 8th December (festival day!) drop in between 12-5pm  and Tuesday 12th December lunchtime book in workshop and design your own postcard to send to a local resident. The sessions are delivered in collaboration with London Metropolitan University, by local artist and designer Mrs Blues, and will include a range of creative methods including stamping, painting, embroidery, collaging and drawing.

Once you’ve completed your postcard, London Metropolitan University photography students Ro and Albany will capture images of your designs and your finished postcard will then be collected at the end of the workshop and delivered to local residents in the community.

Or you can pick up a blank postcard from St Botolph without Aldgate and follow the step-by-step guide below to take part!

  1. Collect blank postcard and take it home.
  2. Get Creative! Create a unique design for the front of your postcard.
  3. On the back, write a thoughtful well-wishing message for a local resident.
  4. Take a photo of your finished postcard (front & back).
  5.  Optionally we encourage you to take a photo of you with the finished postcard.
  6. Post/send your photos to us on Instagram, tagging @AldgateConnect and #AldgateInWinter, or you can email them to alice@lacuna-projects.com 
  7. Return the postcard to the post-box in St Botolph without Aldgate, where it will be picked up and dropped off with a local resident!

What happens next?

The photos of the Postcards from Aldgate will be exhibited through a projection from Toynbee Hall onto Mallon Gardens and will be live everyday from 8-14th January 2024 at 4:30-10:00pm.
